I was born and raised in Florence Italy and moved to the United States in 2011. I live in Massachusetts with my family and do a lot of shopping at local farms, produce stands and small markets. In some ways, one of the things I miss most about my life in Florence was getting to know the people who ran the local stores and asking for their cooking advice. The local, fresh cooking experience is deeply ingrained in the way I approach food and meal preparation and is one of the experiences I wanted to share with my friends as I gave cooking lessons.
When I was a young girl, I spent hours in the kitchen watching my nanny Leda, the wife of a local farmer, who was a master of Tuscan cuisine. She taught me the joy of cooking and the love of the Tuscan approach to food with its focus on simplicity and use of only fresh ingredients. One of the most important things I learned from Leda was how to use fresh herb cooking salts to enhance any meal.
We all have busy lives and I want to give people an opportunity to make a great meal even if you don’t have much time to prepare one. When I first started to think about Cucina Caterina, I wanted to bring my “old world” experience and blend it with locally sourced, fresh ingredients. That’s why I use only the best Mediterranean sea salt with high quality, locally sourced herbs and produce.
I have always had a great passion for food, cooking, and sharing the Italian experience. I hope you enjoy using my fresh herb cooking salts.
